Joint statement urging sector-wide, collective action to end avoidable sight loss

Oct 16 2026

We, leaders from the global eye care sector endorse the St. John’s Global Compact for Eye Health and join the 1 Billion Pledge to help ensure that everyone, everywhere, can access the eye care they need.

As the first global multi-stakeholder agreement on eye health, the Compact provides a shared framework for governments, international institutions, civil society and the private sector to turn ambition into action.

The Global Summit for Eye Health in November is a critical opportunity to accelerate progress toward reaching the more than one billion people still living with avoidable or unaddressed vision impairment. By aligning efforts and commitments, we can expand access to care, mobilise investment and drive meaningful change.

No government, sector or organisation can achieve this alone. We commit to working in partnership to advance eye health globally and call on organisations across the sector to join us and help end avoidable vision loss by 2030.
